A HIGH SEAS LEARNING ADVENTURE

Once upon a time there were two friends. One was named Penelope and one was named Coconuts.

The friends would spend every summer reading, playing or building a fort out of their couch.

But one day instead of building a fort, they decide to pretend their couch was a ship.

They both climbed aboard the ship, and brought a good lunch, they packed a few books and set sail at once.

"Look at the ocean" Penelope said pointing to the ground, she was pretending the carpet was water too.

"I wonder how many different kinds of fish there are, do you?" she said.

"Oh yes, oh yes, I certainly do. But how will we find out?" said her friend Coconuts.

"I'm not sure, maybe we can count", said Penelope.

So as they sat on their boat - which was really just the couch - And they looked into the water - which was really just the carpet - they tried to count all the pretend fish in the sea...

"1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10..."

"This could go on forever, there's so many, how will we ever find out how many different kinds of fish their are in the sea?" said Coconuts.

"You're right, Coconuts, but I have a better idea."

And just then she remembered, she brought a book on their trip. It was full of information all about the ocean, and animals, and plants and of course there were facts about fish in the book.

So they opened the book and began to read all about fish. This is what the book said...

"Some fish live in saltwater (like oceans or the sea) and some fish live in freshwater (like rivers and lakes). There are over 25,000 different kinds of fish in the world."

"Wow!" they both said.

"That's a lot of fish"

"It sure is"

The friends continued sailing in their pretend boat on their pretend sea, and they were very glad they brought a book they could read. Because if you have a good book, every day can be a high seas learning adventure all you need to do is open a book and read!
